Heather works for Siemens Energy as part of the New Technologies Team and started her Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship there in 2021. In March 2024 she gained a Distinction and continues as one of their team.
Nigel Presley, Operations Manager – New Technologies, says…
“Heather has transformed the way in which production data is captured, analysed and displayed, which has made a huge positive impact, and this has been achieved whilst undertaking an apprenticeship.”
Heather chose an apprenticeship because she wanted to learn new skills in a role that interested her. She previously started an Open University course whilst working somewhere else but struggled to balance working full time with a degree. She says,
“I knew that an apprenticeship would be better for me as I could work and learn at the same time.”
Heather’s most interesting challenges include learning new tools and technologies, understanding the business needs and keeping up to date with industry trends. During her apprenticeship, Heather has developed in confidence both personally and regarding her skills. Seeing the impact her projects have had on the company and receiving positive feedback have supported this growth. Heather comments,
“My biggest success so far is getting the final grade I was aiming for in my apprenticeship. I always put extra effort into everything I do and having evidence that my hard work paid off is a huge achievement for me. Now I’ve completed my apprenticeship, I’d like to continue with my learning journey and work towards a Degree in Data Analysis to further my career and skills.”
She found the live virtual training with LearnTech a positive experience, successfully completing tasks remotely, with the user-friendly online tools and effective communication particularly beneficial. When asked what she’d say to anyone considering a tech apprenticeship, Heather replied,
“I would tell them to give it a go. It’s a great opportunity to learn new skills, while gaining work experience in a real work environment in the field that you choose. If you’re willing to put in the effort and it’s something you enjoy, the rewards are endless. I’ve really enjoyed my apprenticeship journey and would recommend this learning path to anyone who wants to develop their skills in an area they enjoy.”
And a final word from her Trainer/Mentor, Georgina, at LearnTech,
“I’m very proud of Heather for gaining a Distinction, and this result has been a testament to how hard she’s worked throughout the apprenticeship. From day one, Heather showed commitment and enthusiasm to her learning and an understanding of how it could be implemented within her workplace. Witnessing Heather’s growth and hearing about her accomplishments at work has been a highlight of my role as her mentor. I hope her success can be an example to current and future apprentices that hard work pays off!”
