Introduction

Our Data Technician Apprenticeship is designed to cover advanced Excel and Power BI in just 12 months.

Data Technicians play a key role in sourcing, formatting and analysing data to drive business outcomes. They present and communicate results tailored to their audience, delivering actionable insights, uncovering critical information, which in turn supports decision making and productivity. 

They adhere to legal and ethical principles when working with and manipulating data and work in line with relevant legislation and guidelines including Data Protection, GDPR and Data Governance policies.  

Our apprenticeship is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to use tools, including Excel, Power BI and SQL to manipulate and format data. Students will learn how to tell stories with data that inspire, foster understanding and influence decisions. 

Who can do this apprenticeship?

This apprenticeship is designed for individuals aspiring to start a career in data, working in data driven roles or wanting to improve their current data skills. 

Apprenticeship candidates are likely to be working as: 

  • All Office Administrators up to manager level
  • Sales / Finance Administrators
  • Junior Data Analysts
  • Data Support Analysts
  • Data Technicians
  • Junior Data Analysts
  • Junior Information Analysts

All Data Technician candidates will need to… 

  • Be employed in or being hired into a job role with data technician responsibilities 
  • Be working on real-world data projects to showcase their knowledge and skills  
  • Have support from their employer to dedicate approximately 8 hours a week to training 

Live online learning

Our interactive live, online training model is designed to create a flexible learning environment without losing any of the benefits of in-person teaching. An apprenticeship with LearnTech typically looks like… 

  • Live weekly online sessions – 2 hours per week
  • Off-the-job training (OTJT) - Weekly hours are programme specific (see top of page)
  • Immersive learning experience through Microsoft Teams Classroom 
  • Maximum classroom size of 12 ensures a highly effective trainer to student ratio 
  • Monthly 1 to 1 mentor meetings
  • Maths and English - if required

Core content

  • Understand data fundamentals and regulatory requirements
  • Develop skills to work with data and complex spreadsheets using Excel
  • Implement Power Query to manage datasets
  • Develop skills to manage datasets with DAX
  • Create reports and visualisations with Power BI
  • Access and manipulate databases using Structured Query Language (SQL)

The following BCS AI & Data Award is now included with this apprenticeship:

The award comprises of 30 hours additional learning, of which 8 hours (4 x 2-hour sessions) are live online with a trainer. Mock exam, feedback and the BCS final exam are also included.

Vinay is a Technical Trainer and Mentor for LearnTech’s data apprenticeships. With a degree in Genetics and a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, he brings a strong academic foundation to his role. 

With over a decade of experience in teaching, training, and mentoring across public and private education sectors, Vinay is passionate about helping students gain the skills needed to excel in data-driven careers.
